Tea party

My mom found out about a Nutcracker tea party being given by a ballet studio. She thought it would be fun and got tickets for herself, Katie and me. There were snacks, dancers in costume, story time, dance ”lessons” and games. It was pretty cute and Katie loved the girls in costumes and getting to dance with them.

Meanie Weanie

We did it.

Sent Katie to my moms for the weekend.

And we let him cry.

The first night was the LONGEST night. Mr. Stubborn cried for almost 3 hrs straight. When he finally gave in, and I went to check, his head was laying on his feet. It was the most pitiful thing, like he just gave up. Ripped my heart out…And the 2nd night, he slept all night, obviously from complete exhaustion from night #1.  That was over 2 weeks ago, and….

he’s sleeping through the night!!!!! Success! Every once in a while he’ll cry during the night, but not for long and he puts himself to sleep. It took several days of some crying after that first night, but now we’re sleeping! We’re probably not playing the game right, because we’re still rocking him to sleep. I’m just not ready for that hurdle, putting him down and waiting for him to go to sleep on his own. Baby steps.

AND, I’ve weaned him. I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen. I’d been ready for about 2 months, I was so sleep deprived and only rocking and nursing worked during the night. I’d weaned all but the bedtime feeding. I was scared it would be a nightmare getting him to sleep initially and then all night long without that feeding… and all the proceeding middle of the night ones. But, the first night of cry it out, was the first night of freedom.

He’s done pretty well with the adjustment. He loves to drink milk just like his sister, so the switch to whole milk was a breeze. Of course his favorite thing to do with his sippy cup is to manage to find a way to make it leak. And it’s a hilarious game to drop his cup for us to pick up while we’re eating. He’ll drop it and say uh oh perfectly. That part is pretty cute.

I had a rough week that first week. Pretty sure I had mastitis and went on antibiotics. It was painful and I am glad it’s over. I expected the hormonal shift and sadness, which hung around for a day or two, but now I’m painfree and somewhat relieved. Nursing was a wonderful experience, but the sleep deprivation got to me at the end and actually made weaning easier.

Boo!

Katie and I did the pumpkin carving this year. She never wants to help me clean it out though…

Our little clown wasn’t so funny :(

IMG_7011

Is this pitiful or what?

IMG_7012

Our black kitty meowed a LOT that night!

IMG_7018

I love the look on his face!

IMG_7024

Jason’s very scary clown costume. It made Kyle cry every time he looked at him! Can’t imagine why?

Watch out who you open your door to…

I got so many compliments, I’m pretty sure I was channeling Flo. Someone even said I should audition for the commercials! I think Progressive should send me a bonus at least for advertising, right?

IMG_7042

She had a ton of fun at our church funival and even got to trick or treat on our street too! One of our neighbors decorates really scary, graveyard, strobe lights, scary music and she’s usually terrified, but told us this year she wasn’t scared. Marched right up and got her candy!

My turn…OLF!

This one’s about me. I had to wear my costume to work the day before Halloween. I think it’s greatness!  Here it is:

More of Katie

IMG_6859

Katie has been on a roll this week. Some of her funny moments:

~~She asked me if Santa and the elves argued about which gift to bring you from your Christmas list.

~~~We had to go to the dentist to have that tooth pulled after all. So the next morning she checked out what the tooth fairy brought her. I was in another room and she came in waving a dollar bill and said “look, all I got was this one random dollar.” (Then, she asked me what random meant :) We went to the dollar store and she spent her random dollar on a paint set.
~~~~Katie for the first time noticed Kyle’s boy parts and wanted to know why he had them. I told her because he was a boy. She said “that is so gross, I am so glad we are girls!”

Horrible hair day

Kindergarden had horrible hair day today. Katie insisted I roll her hair in sponge rollers that she slept in and she picked out her many hair accessories.

I tried to convince her that actually wearing the curlers would be the best look, but no go. She thought she was hot stuff.

Prep work:

The rest…

We have had a pretty busy month so far. Toured the new Cowboys stadium, went to the State fair, went to Six Flags, 3 of us have had strep, Katie joined Girl Scouts and has had her first meetings and I’ve signed up for boot camp, again! This is busy for us, but it’s been fun!

The Cowboys stadium tour took us to the locker room and a private suite. We had a great view as they let us “own” the suite for 7 whole minutes of our tour.  That TV is very impressive! A nice view don’t ya think?

This is the players entrance. This is the only stadium that the players enter on the 50 instead of the end zone. The visitors side has this huge star overhead too, so right as they enter the field it’s the last thing they see.

We took Katie to Six Flags for the first time. She loved all the kiddie rides. It rained  but wasn’t cold, so it was just wet and not miserable. Luckily they closed the park early, so we got rain checks. I’m bummed that I don’t have pictures because of the rain, maybe next time.

We took our first trip to the State Fair. Jason and I had never been and we picked a pretty good day. It was cool and cloudy and not too crowded.

We did everything we could with a stroller and baby. On the Sky Tram:

Jason had to check out the new Camaros at the car show and was excited to see this Bumblebee one. You can see the logos on the hood and side.

Ready to ride our 1st roller coaster, she was brave.

DSC03172

It was our first time, we had to try it.

DSC03195

Fried oreos and snickers. We also tried fried cookie dough, fried butter, fried peaches and fried twinkies. Hey I had some roasted corn too, so that rounded it out right? ;)

DSC03248

Yes she posed herself.

Bootcamp has been good for me. Tough, but sometimes that’s what you need. I did manage to loose a few inches, hoping for a few more this time too. Trying to gear up for next summer. My BFF just got engaged and has decided to get married in HAWAII!!! Jason and I are so excited, but we have a lot of work to do to be ready. Hoping for a kid free vacation we have not had in 8 years. I think it’s time!

Birthday Boy

CIMG1285

Kyle turned one October 2nd. Where did the year go?

We had family over to celebrate his birthday with pizza and Baby Einstein cake. Kyle was not interested in opening gifts. I think he only actually watched me open one and then was wondering around, mostly playing with his old toys. He did pretty good destroying his cake with a little encouragement. I think he enjoyed using a fork the most. My children and their issues with not getting dirty…

CIMG1291

We went for his 12 month checkup on his birthday and he weighed 23.4 lbs and was 31 1/4 inches. Such a big boy, growing way too fast! He surprised us a few days before his birthday by walking! He took a few steps when I was not home- of course! But those few have turned into many. He’s getting faster and faster by the day. Now we have to work on walking with shoes, he’s not so interested in keeping any on that I’ve tried so far.

He’s sleeping a little better, still getting up at night, but not over and over. Maybe relief of an all nighter is coming soon!

He’s started doing a little bit of a bye-bye wave and says a few recognizable words. We’re not sure if he plans what he’s saying, but it’s adorable either way. He says hi, something that sounds like I did it, dada and dad. His favorite must be dad, he repeats it over and over, like the seagulls on Nemo, mine mine mine. And even better he’s letting dad put him to bed, play with him and carry him around. It’s nice to have a little relief.

He loves to play with balls. He likes to hide them under the couch or in the cushions, so you never know where they’ll turn up.

That’s the scoop on our little man at one.
