Thankfull
Our Thanksgiving this year was in Arkansas. My family is loud and full of laughs. I love to sit back and soak it all in. Good stuff. We stayed with an aunt and uncle who live in the boonies. The kids loved playing outside and checking out their chickens. We were ready to get away but being gone sure does make you appreciate your own bed.
Checking out the chickens, he kept getting closer and closer…
Hanging out with Aunt LS and Scottie
We came home and couldn’t wait to put up our tree. Katie is so excited to count down the days until Santa comes!
You owe me!
Jason’s in San Diego this week. He so nicely sent me a picture of the ocean view from his hotel room. Sunday before he left I told him he was going to owe me for this week by myself. Katie leaned over and said “mom tell him how much he owes you.” She was wanting to know the dollar amount
One of those days
Tuesday was one. The kind where you feel like the worst mother in the world. I’ve had several lately where I felt guilty for losing my patience so often, but this was so much worse.
I always pick up Katie from school by parking and walking up to the building with Kyle. Park in the same spot. Walk the same path. Always. Well we were walking back to the car, I stepped off the curb and went down. So fast I couldn’t even process much less react. And Kyle hit his head. On. The. Concrete. Panic! Of course he’s screaming, I’m waiting for the blood to start gushing. Katie’s shocked and scared and crying too. But, there’s no blood, I can’t find any marks at all. I’m thinking I’ve got to get him home to check for brain damage. I call the pedi and they give me all the signs to look for. I found the spot where he hit, has an abrasion, but no knot or anything else. After I finally got him calm, he had a snack and was torturing the cat as usual, so I’m feeling a little better about his mental condition.
I thought I better check my knees since they were stinging. I’ve got little holes in both knees of my pants. One of my knees was bleeding. Katie went a little bit nuts. “OH NO, you’re BLEEDING, I’ll get a bandage” and ran off. She helped me doctor it and decided I needed a jumbo bandaid.
Here’s the icing on the cake. After all that, I realize I can hardly stand on my left food. I guess I twisted my foot/ankle as I stepped off the curb which is why I fell. It hurts. I iced it and can still not put much weight on it. Oddly, there’s no bruise or major swelling. (Of course the mommy in me says this is your punishment for not protecting your baby.) So, I had an xray and nothing is broken. The doctor recommended crutches. Wouldn’t that be easy, crutches and a baby to carry?
Now it’s been two days. Kyle appears to be his normal wildman self and I’m walking a little more painfree. Looks like we’ll make it, but I have decided when God was handing out coordination I’m pretty sure I was in the wrong line.

This guy is goofy.
One of my favorite shirts. And he had his first taste of choc milk while wearing, appropriate yes?
See, he does love his daddy!
He’s learned to associate shoes with going outside and loves it. Isn’t this the best? Onesies and tennies.
And Katie… always drawing. Today’s artwork is a pic of the two of us. I love our necks!
She’s wearing her first pair of dangly earrings and thrilled about it. I think she’s aged 3 years by wearing them, don’t you?
Tea party

My mom found out about a Nutcracker tea party being given by a ballet studio. She thought it would be fun and got tickets for herself, Katie and me. There were snacks, dancers in costume, story time, dance ”lessons” and games. It was pretty cute and Katie loved the girls in costumes and getting to dance with them.

Learning part of the Nutcracker dance from the older girls.

Meanie Weanie
We did it.
Sent Katie to my moms for the weekend.
And we let him cry.
The first night was the LONGEST night. Mr. Stubborn cried for almost 3 hrs straight. When he finally gave in, and I went to check, his head was laying on his feet. It was the most pitiful thing, like he just gave up. Ripped my heart out…And the 2nd night, he slept all night, obviously from complete exhaustion from night #1. That was over 2 weeks ago, and….
he’s sleeping through the night!!!!! Success! Every once in a while he’ll cry during the night, but not for long and he puts himself to sleep. It took several days of some crying after that first night, but now we’re sleeping! We’re probably not playing the game right, because we’re still rocking him to sleep. I’m just not ready for that hurdle, putting him down and waiting for him to go to sleep on his own. Baby steps.
AND, I’ve weaned him. I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen. I’d been ready for about 2 months, I was so sleep deprived and only rocking and nursing worked during the night. I’d weaned all but the bedtime feeding. I was scared it would be a nightmare getting him to sleep initially and then all night long without that feeding… and all the proceeding middle of the night ones. But, the first night of cry it out, was the first night of freedom.
He’s done pretty well with the adjustment. He loves to drink milk just like his sister, so the switch to whole milk was a breeze. Of course his favorite thing to do with his sippy cup is to manage to find a way to make it leak. And it’s a hilarious game to drop his cup for us to pick up while we’re eating. He’ll drop it and say uh oh perfectly. That part is pretty cute.
I had a rough week that first week. Pretty sure I had mastitis and went on antibiotics. It was painful and I am glad it’s over. I expected the hormonal shift and sadness, which hung around for a day or two, but now I’m painfree and somewhat relieved. Nursing was a wonderful experience, but the sleep deprivation got to me at the end and actually made weaning easier.
Boo!
Katie and I did the pumpkin carving this year. She never wants to help me clean it out though…

Our little clown wasn’t so funny

Is this pitiful or what?

Our black kitty meowed a LOT that night!

I love the look on his face!

Jason’s very scary clown costume. It made Kyle cry every time he looked at him! Can’t imagine why?

Watch out who you open your door to…

I got so many compliments, I’m pretty sure I was channeling Flo. Someone even said I should audition for the commercials! I think Progressive should send me a bonus at least for advertising, right?

She had a ton of fun at our church funival and even got to trick or treat on our street too! One of our neighbors decorates really scary, graveyard, strobe lights, scary music and she’s usually terrified, but told us this year she wasn’t scared. Marched right up and got her candy!

My turn…OLF!
This one’s about me. I had to wear my costume to work the day before Halloween. I think it’s greatness! Here it is:

check out my tricked out name tag!

Katie’s reading everything sight, sometimes backwards. She keeps calling me Olf!
More of Katie

Katie has been on a roll this week. Some of her funny moments:
~~She asked me if Santa and the elves argued about which gift to bring you from your Christmas list.
~~~We had to go to the dentist to have that tooth pulled after all. So the next morning she checked out what the tooth fairy brought her. I was in another room and she came in waving a dollar bill and said “look, all I got was this one random dollar.” (Then, she asked me what random meant
We went to the dollar store and she spent her random dollar on a paint set.
~~~~Katie for the first time noticed Kyle’s boy parts and wanted to know why he had them. I told her because he was a boy. She said “that is so gross, I am so glad we are girls!”
